RIVERFRONT FORT WAYNE
Reconnecting the community to the riverfront will also act as an economic development tool by stimulating new private development.
The City of Fort Wayne has a rich history of Native American and European settlers that strategically created settlements and fortified camps at the confluence of three rivers and which have evolved into the modern city. In recent years civic leaders have recognized the value of creating a series of riverfront attractions that will strengthen downtown as a regional destination together with existing cultural and entertainment venues. Reconnecting the community to the riverfront will also act as an economic development tool by stimulating new private development.
Following the creation of a conceptual master plan, BatesForum has been selected to provide detailed design documents for Phase 1 of the riverfront improvements. The activities will focus on increased recreational use of the river, dining and entertainment venues, programmed events and ecological restoration. The Phase 1 area includes an urban plaza and waterfront promenade that will create a dynamic new destination for entertainment that is linked to the CBD, Headwaters Park, surrounding venues, neighborhoods and the extensive River Greenway Trails.
