GRAND CENTER PERFORMANCE GREEN

Turning an underutilized parking lot and vacant land into an epicenter of creativity that serves the aesthetic and economic needs of artists, patrons, tourists, and the entire St. Louis community

BatesForum and LAND COLLECTIVE, are part of a multidisciplinary team charged with creating a vision for Performance Green, an aesthetically pleasing new public space in downtown St. Louis.

In transforming 2.5-acres of parking and an underutilized parcel of land, this collaborative endeavor captures the aspirations of the constituents of St. Louis – create civic pride and form social connections, jump-start economic development, and craft a memorable public space to leave as a legacy for generations to come.

The Performance Green will become host to a multitude of outdoor performances, and will develop seasonal programming to stimulate community involvement, including farmer’s markets, ice skating, cafes and casual gathering space, art festivals, and Circus Flora, a one-ring circus performed annually in St. Louis.

The design of Performance Green will also create an abundance of opportunities for other arts-oriented groups, in and around St. Louis. To strengthen and enrich this budding community, entertainment at various levels will be provided for the public, from intimate poetry readings to small and informal theater events to movie night on the green.
