COOK COUNTY CENTRAL CAMPUS HEALTH CENTER
"It is a transformative centerpiece for system-wide operational and programmatic reform." - Toni Preckwinkle, Board President, Cook County
Cook County and the Cook County Health and Hospital Systems have hired Clayco, Inc., as the developer and design/builder to program, design and construct the new nine story, 282,000-square-foot Central Campus Health Center. The Center is being built to replace the aging Fantus Clinic and will connect new and expanded ambulatory services to the adjacent John H. Stroger In-Patient Hospital at multiple levels to provide patient and staff access. Located three-miles west of Chicago’s Central Business District, the Center will be built at the corner of Damen Avenue and Polk Street in the Stroger Campus inside the heart of the Illinois Medical District. Once complete, the Center will provide state-of-the art Medical Oncology, Infusion, Dental, General Medicine, Oral Health, Dermatology, Ophthalmology and other specialty out-patient services. Additional components of the project include five levels of administrative and professional office space, new emergency drive and access road realignments, the demolition of the outdated Fantus Clinic and extensive site work including the relocation of the existing bulk oxygen lank farm.
BatesForum has been retained as the Executive Architect responsible for the implementation and delivery of this fast-track project. As Clayco’s architectural partner, Forum is leading the integration and coordination of a multi-disciplinary team of architects and engineers throughout the design and construction phase of this transformational project.
The new Center will be constructed with a structural steel braced frame erected upon a belled caisson foundation. It will feature stand-alone MEP systems with air cooled rooftop units and hot water VAV reheat. The exterior will be enclosed by a combination of curtain wall and unitized GFRC panels. The project is targeting LEED Silver Certification. It has an approximate budget of $108.5 million and a 3rd quarter of 2018 completion date.
