BatesForum provided design services for eight buildings on Caterpillar's North American Hydraulic Excavator Plant campus.

Caterpillar Inc., the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines, industrial gas turbines and diesel-electric locomotives engaged BatesForum to design their new, state-of-the-art hydraulic excavator manufacturing campus.

The new campus includes eight separate structures which are independent yet coalesce through their massing to create a balanced environment. The facilities include paint lines, welding and fabrication areas, two main assembly lines and several smaller sub-assembly lines. The facility includes a central chilled water plant and over 100 bridge cranes. Forum led the planning and design effort to ensure that optimal operation efficiencies were maintained. The design was completed using the latest BIM technology which assisted in conveying the design intent and coordination efforts on this fast pace project.
